The untitled split CD by Massachusetts Metal aggressors HIRUDINEA and WATCHMAKER could very well invoke the beginning of World Wars III and IV! HIRUDINEA launches the assault with 4 tracks of raging extreme Metal, blending the most vicious elements of Black and Death Metal with Grindcore and Crossover elements thrown in for good measure. Despite only releasing very limited quantities of rehearsal/promo material prior to this split album, HIRUDINEA has earned a reputation as one of the most savage and overpowering live Metal bands in the Northeastern US. Complementing HIRUDINEA's precision hammering, WATCHMAKER finishes the disc off with 7 of their trademark chaotic Noise Metal numbers, revealing their Thrashing roots perhaps more than any of their 3 full-lengths. Recorded by the band themselves between the KILL.FUCKING.EVERYONE. and ERASED FROM THE MEMORY OF MAN albums, WATCHMAKER's half of this split is not lacking in the expected wall-of-noise effect and multi-layered aural anarchy, but also clearly displays the band's penchant for ripping, headbanging riffery. In an age where few bands can be said to be pushing the boundaries of extremity in Metal, this split disc features 2 who are doing just that, packaged with apocalyptic art courtesy of WATCHMAKER's Brian Livoti, which only hints at the thermonuclear ferocity contained within.
