NOCTURNAL hails from Deutschland, and is one of few bands upholding the strong German Thrash Metal tradition. The band's second 7" EP FIRE OF REVENGE is their first professional recording, and features 2 new aggressive, cutthroat Thrash Attacks, as well as a cover from the mighty LIVING DEATH! Throw on your leather, denim and spikes and LET THE FIRE BURN!!

Fazit
Wer auf geilen, rotzigen und rifflastigen Thrash steht und sich halbwegs im deutschen Underground auskennt, dem dürften die old school Thrasher Nocturnal aus Koblenz schon längst ein Begriff sein. Die Jungs (und damals noch 1 Mädel) fahren die ganz alte Schiene und es drängen sich sofort unwillkürlich Vergleiche zu solchen Göttern wie Destruction, Exumer und Exodus auf. Wobei ich finde, daß Nocturnal vom Sound her noch ne Spur brutaler kommen, was nicht zuletzt am Gesang und an der schön erdigen Produktion liegt ! Kein getriggertes Bassdrum das sinnlos rumballert wie man es mittlerweile leider von allen größeren Thrash Bands kennt, hier ist noch alles "handgemacht".
Der ein oder andere kleine Timingpatzer hier und da (vor allem im Titeltrack "Fire of revenge") tut keinem was und läßt die Aufnahme dadurch eher erfrischend natürlich klingen. (Wer mich kennt weiß ohnehin, daß ich eh auf sowas stehe he he...). Auch das Living Death Cover KILLING MACHINE kann sich sehen lassen und hält durchaus dem Vergleich mit dem Original Stand. Passt also eigentlich alles perfekt, wenn die Songs bloß teilweise nicht etwas 'unauffällig' wären. Hier ist also leider kein zweites 'Mad Butcher', 'Possessed by fire' oder 'Bonded by blood' zu finden, dennnoch kristallisiert sich nach dem ein oder anderen Durchlauf das ein oder andere Killer-Riff raus ! Auf jeden Fall eine Band mit einigem Potential!!!

If you´re into dirty old school Thrash with some heavy riffings, you should know Nocturnal from Koblenz (germany). These guys are playing their music back to the roots and remind you immediately to the early releases of Destruction, Exumer and Exodus. Even though Nocturnal are quiet harder than their idols. That´s mainly because of the evil vocals of Mayhem and the raw production of this EP. No triggered bassdrum can be found in this one ! The music is 'hand made' all the way. Although there are some timing problems (especially in 'Fire of revenge') but that´s no problem at all.
I like this dirty way of playing !!! Also well done the Living Death cover KILLING MACHINE wich is quit as good as the original. It all fits perfecttly but one thing. The songs are some kinda unspectacular... That means, there´s no 2nd 'Mad Butcher', 'Possessed by fire' or 'Bonded by blood' to find here.
But after listening to it several times, you can find the one or other catchy riff in these songs. A band with a lot of potential...
